Abia residents react to approval for rehabitation of Uturu-ABSU-Akara broad

Residents, students, traders and Artisans living at Uturu community in Isiukwato local government area of Abia state, have lauded the President Muhammadu Buhari federal government for the recent approval it granted on the rehabitation of the dilapidated Uturu-ABSU-Akara roads.

AFRIPOST recalls that Federal Executive Council had on March 20, 2021, approved over 13 billion for the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Uturu-ABSU-Akara road in Abia State.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, revealed this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, in Abuja.

Expressing their profound appreciation on the gesture during an interview with newsmen, on Saturday, they especially thanked the Nigerian Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson for attracting and actualizing this great feat which has today, turned to a reality ending skepticism surrounding it.

In an interview with newsmen, a resident of Uturu Isiukwato community who dwells on sale of motor-parts  on Mr. Emmanuel Obialor, noted that the deplorable state of the Uturu-ABSU-Akara road has continued to posed as deathtrap to residents of the area plying the road and exposing them to all forms of criminalities.

He expressed total dismay at the negligence of the dilapidated state road by relevant authorities and lamented the  high rates of casualties recorded on the road which he described as inhuman and insensitive.

According to Obialor, “I must commend the federal minister, Uche Ogah for heeding to our yearnings which turned to be a reality today. I give him the kudos for displaying uncommon leadership and has made Abians proud and has solidly delivered in advancing the interests of the people of our dear state.

“But I must say that it will remain in our memories on the untold hardship the sorry state of the road had caused many people, some lost their breadwinners and beloved ones. So,  must commend the federal government for coming to our aid which worth celebrating. Concluding,I must use this medium to call on all residents adjacent to Uturu-ABSU-Akara road to cooperate with the construction firm and its engineers, so as to ensure smooth rehabitation work on the bad road to ease pains and agony associated with it”.

Chatting with news reporters after an assessment tour of the bad Uturu-ABSU-Akara road, Okeregbe Ngozi, a shop owner resident in Uturu community and dwells in sale of beverages,  regretted the damages the road had foisted on many families and applauded the Abia representative in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in Abuja, and Minister of State for Mines, Uche Ogah for achieving this wonderful feast and said when the road is rehabitated, will enhance the transportation of goods and services within the regions.

He said, “there is no gainsaying the fact that this Uturu road has continued to be nightmare to the people especially those into commercial transportation. You see one accident to the another, heavy traffic jam and all sort of harms. I will want to use this Medium to thank those who made this possible and reality. I believe when the road is completed as government has approved rehabitation work on the road. It is commendable and good step in right direction.

The people plying the bad road will no longer   experience agonies, difficulty and flooding as a result of walking and driving on the road. I thank the President and Dr Uche Ogah who made this to turned to good tilted at easef human and vehicluar movement.

“I advise everybody including my humble self, and commuters and all those in private and commercial to support the contractor for ensure early realization of motorable and safe road”.

On his part, Romanus Asonye, a commercial motorist, said the announcement on the government’s recent approval for the rehabitation of the Uturu-ABSU-Akara road has given the resident, motorists and commuters a good sense of relief, and further lamented that the dangers the deplorable road has continued to posed on human and vehicluar movement, applauding the mines and steel developement minister for pushing and attraction of federal government’s attentiontion that led to the approval for reconstruction work on the said road.

“I think, it is commendable in the sense that it will relieve many people who on daily basis walk and drive through the bad. We are facing bug challenges due its bad nature. And I must say the government has done to address this particular yearnings, and I am using the opportunity to advise our people to cooperate with the relevant authority contracted to carry out the rehabitation work”.
