Must read

The three presidential aspirants for 2023 elections under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Governors ofĀ  Sokoto and Bauchi States, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Senator Bala Mohammed have held meeting with the former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) on the need to adopt a consensus candidate in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on behalf of the other aspirants during a visit to the country home of Babangida in Minna, Niger State, Senator Saraki said the visit was to solicit IBB support on the way to actualize theĀ plan for a consensus candidate.

According to him, their (aspirants) effort is out of the desire to provide a political solution and to ensure that the process is rancorous.

He stated, “We, the aspirants of the PDP platform deemed it fit to come and brief the Former Military President on what we are doing in respect of the consensus as part of our consultation going around the country talking to our leaders

Saraki said we believe that in exercises like this, we need his belief, advice and guidance. We are rancorous and we cannot do that just among the four of us. We need the support of the leaders of the party and their advice.”

Responding, IBB stated that he was happy with the consensus decision of the aspirants, adding that the decision would give better room for peace and unity in the country.

The former military leader added, “I enjoyed meeting with you because I like what I heard. Your belief in the unity of this country is paramount. Your belief in having a better Nigeria featured prominently in the course of your discussion and you’ve made my day that all you talked about was Nigeria.”

“You will have our support as long as you stay on the course of promoting Nigeria all the time, making it a secure country. Thank you for your thoughts and I appreciate it”.
