As the 2023 general elections draw closer, various contenders under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Niger State have started indicating interest to contest the Governorship elections on the ticket of the party in the state.

Some of them include Bar. A. H. Gimba, Isah Liman Kantigi, Hon. Ndako Kpaki, Alh. Sani Kutigi, and Engr. Abdullahi Isah Jankara. They all hail from the Niger South Senatorial zone where the state PDP is set to produce its gubernatorial flag bearer in the forthcoming elections.

Recalled that the state chairman of PDP in Niger State, Bar. Tanko Beji had insisted at an expanded meeting of stakeholders in Bida, Bida local government area in February that its next governorship flag bearer will emerge from the senatorial district in line with the zoning arrangement adopted years ago.

“Nothing can tear us apart. The Zoning system has come to stay. We are still going to use it for the 2023 governorship election and Zone “A” is already warming up for the Governorship slot,” Beji stated.

“Nobody can break the zoning system. Anybody that wants to break it will meet a brick wall and we will stand on our feet to see it implemented for a rancour free election because every zone will have a taste of it when the time comes,” Beji stated.

However, among the list of aspirants so far, Engr. Abdullahi Isah Jankara (PmP) last week Tuesday obtained his nomination form at the WADATA Plaza housing the Party’s national secretariat in Abuja as it was learnt the others are still consulting with stakeholders on their ambitions.

But, while at the national party secretariat to pick his form, a melodrama ensued between two groups over which draft would be used in paying for the nomination form of Engr. Jankara

The two groups arrived at the secretariat with a draft of N21m each to obtain the governorship nomination form for the aspirant.

The first group comprised of his professional colleagues that goes by the accolade “The Oil Boys”, it was learnt came with a bank draft of N21 million for the form, coincidentally, his political associates also came with another draft of N21 million to purchase the nomination form.

The presence of the two groups at the same moment resulted in some arguments, which it was gathered was resolved by the aspirant, who pacified both sides as to whose draft would be used to purchase the nomination form.

Jankara who confirmed the purchase of his nomination form to Journalists in Minna, said some of his friends had earlier called that they were coming to pay for his nomination form and on arrival at the venue, they met another set who came with another draft for the same purpose.

The Niger state PDP governorship hopeful, a Nupe by tribe who hails from Abugi- Jankara in Lapai local government area stated,” but we were able to resolve among ourselves. I am humbled by their actions, and I look forward to using my goodwill for the development of Niger State”.

The aspirant, a seasoned oil and gas professional, member Nigeria Society of Engineers (MNSE), COREN certified Engineer, Member Society of Petroleum Engineers, Member Project Management Institute of the United States of America explained that he was surprised by their actions and hopes to use his goodwill to develop Niger State if elected.

According to him,” what marvels me most is the fact that my home community of GASE that is Gupa, Abugi, Saka and Edzu communities through the various village heads contributed monies to support the purchase of my nomination form” they gave me their blessings and promised to continue to pray for all sons and daughters of the community that are contesting for any elective position in any of the political parties”.

The GASE community now determined to speak in one voice, used to be filled with rancour with the villages having various conflicting opinions on political matters.
