US President Joe Biden has joined other world leaders to warn Russian President Vladimir Putin against use of any chemical weapons on Ukraine, saying any attempt will be aggressively responded to.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and the shelling and air strikes by Russian military have killed thousands of Ukrainian civilians including children and journalists.
World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that over 64 Ukrainian health facilities have been attacked by Russian military since the war began.
Nato, European Union(EU) and G7 leaders have been having emergency meetings over military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine and Ukrainians.
Speaking in Brussels, Mr Biden said that any use of chemical weapons by Mr Putin would be met with a “response”, the nature of which “would depend on the nature of the use”.
Mr Biden added that the Russian President had “miscalculated” in his decision to invade Ukraine, and had banked on “Nato being split”.
“Nato has never, never been more united. Putin is getting exactly the opposite of (what) he intended to have as a consequence of going into Ukraine.”
