Ogah mourns veteran journalist, Emeka Obasi at 58

The Minister of State for Mines and  Steel Development, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah, is saddened by the passage of the Publisher, Hallmark Newspapers, Chief Emeka Obasi.

AFRIPOST recalls that Late Emeka Obasi passed on, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in a Lagos hospital at the age of 58th years, according to a statement by his son, Prince Emeka Obasi (Jnr).

The veteran journalist was a  Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Abia, during the administration of ex-Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, and hailed from Umuaroko Azueke Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

Reacting, the Honorable Minister of State for Mines, Dr Uche Ogah, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the Late Prince Emeka Obasi, as a true and accomplished Abian who contributed immensely to the development of his home state, Abia, then as Commissioner in the first democratic dispensation in the state, noted that the deceased publisher also played an incomparable role in the enthronement of present democratic government in Nigeria through his journalism profession.

Ogah further noted that while he was alive, Late Prince Emeka Obasi stood his ground and remained committed to the deepening of democracy through his widely-read Hallmark Newspapers, saying that the Ibeku-born veteran journalist will be remembered for his forthrightness and unwavering commitment in advancing the course of good governance in Abia state and  Nigeria at large, through his numerous weekly columns in Hallmark Newspaper and other national dailies.

According to him, “He lived a life worthy emulation and was an epitome of truthful journalism devoid of biasness, tribalism and religion. While he was also alive, was a peaceful-loving man, a  community leader at his hometown, Umuaroko Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North, which equally earned him, the traditional chieftaincy title as, “Nwadioha of Ibeku on 15th April, 2005, by Council of Traditional Rulers of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom led by the Paramount Ruler and Ogurube vi of Ibeku, His Royal Majesty, Eze Samuel Onuoha”.

Dr Ogah on behalf of his family, his political structure in Abia State, the Abia Rejoice and the Federal Government of Nigeria commiserate with the Obasi family, People of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom and Nigerian Media Industry, on the unfortunate demise of the veteran Publisher, Late Prince Emeka Obasi, praying God almighty to give the bereaved family the fortitude to be the irreparable loss.
