Ebonyi State House of Assembly members who were asked to vacate their seats by a court judgement in Abuja on Tuesday for defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) have successfully secured an order in rem on Thursday.
AFRIPOST reports that a Federal High court sitting in Abuja had on Tuesday sacked 17 lawmakers in the State House of Assembly and declared their seats vacant.
This came following a defection suit filed against the lawmakers by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for defecting to the All Progressives Congress Party (APC).
The speaker, Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, said on Thursday at a press conference in Abakaliki that the resolution was to obey the rule of law and to let justice takes its course.
“When we received the judgment, we swung into action and filed an appeal and also a stay of execution on the matter which has been granted.
“Our position is that the law should take its course. We urge the public to be calm and law abiding. As a people they elected, we are on course to get their mandates back.” Nwifuru said.
