Meta Vice President of social impact, Emily Dalton Smith has said Facebook users have been raising funds to aid Ukraine.
AFRIPOST reports that Russia invaded Ukraine on February 28, a development that has been greeted with massive condemnations and had attracted various degrees of sanctions against Russia across the globe.
Smith told CNN on Sunday that 650,000 Facebook users have raised more than $20 million to aid Ukraine, TheCEO reports.
“Our community has raised more than $20 million from 650,000 people across the world for nonprofits,”
Reacting to Russian government banning access to Facebook and other social media blogging apps in the country, Smith said, “It’s an evolving situation.”
“we’re doing everything we can to restore our services and make sure all of our services — Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp — remain available for people,” she said.
