President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed that $8.5 million be made available for the evacuation of Nigerians from Ukraine.
Zubairu Dada, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs made this disclosure Wednesday afternoon.
Dada further disclosed that the president’s approval was announced on Wednesday at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided by Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo.
AirPeace and Max Air airlines will as a result provide three aircraft to facilitate the evacuation of Nigerians.
Russia has been bombarding Ukraine over its alleged effort to demilitarize the country.
Nigerian students have been trapped in the crisis for several days now even as other African counties have successfully evacuated their people.
But Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, had said an immediate evacuation was not possible due to no-fly zone from Ukraine.
The Federal government had further updated Nigerians that proper evacuation would begin as from Wednesday. (Today)
