Ebonyi State secretary of Nigeria Union of Journalists , Mr Nnamdi Akpa, has disclosed how he was allegedly beaten by over 50 thugs belonging to the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, on Monday.
Akpa said he was hit, pushed on the chest and punched many times by the thugs for refusing to give his phone to the thugs
The NUJ secretary said if not for the intervention of the Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Comrade Tony Nwizi, he wouldn’t have escaped from the hands of the thugs.
He said, oh God, it was something he never thought of would have happen today.
He said, “I came out to work today, as usual. I went to the House of Assembly because of the speculation to remove the Deputy Speaker.
“The thugs were about 50 and they all belong to the Speaker of the House. They approached me and demanded that I should give them my phone. I said I won’t give them and all of a sudden, they started beating me. That’s all. I didn’t do anything to them.
“It was NUJ Chairman that came to save me in their hands.. I don’t know what would have happened to me if he didn’t come.”
