NorthWest geopolitical zone elects representatives to Boards of Sports Federation

Northwest geopolitical Zone on Wednesday elected its representatives to the Boards of the various Sports Federations in the country.

One of those elected was the Immediate-past Director, Grassroots Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are, who secured the mandate to represent the zone on the Board of the Rugby Federation of Nigeria.

Are emerged winner after beating his opponent, David Eneana by 4-3 votes in an elections conducted on Wednesday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Also elected to represent Traditional Sports Federation from North-West Zone, is Alhaji Aminu Bizi, who beat his opponent, Usman Musa, by 5-2 votes.

In an interview with sportswriters after the election, Are said that with his vast experience, the game of rugby was set for development in the country.

Also speaking, Alhaji Aminu Bizi said that with his emergence, Traditional Sports in the country would be taken to greater height.

He promised that efforts would be made to ensure that Nigeriaā€™s Traditional Sports featured at the Olympics Games.

Speaking, the representative of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who conducted the election, Aminu Kasim, described the exercise as being free and fair.

In Handball, Aminu Bala from Sokoto emerged winner after defeating Musa Hamza from Kaduna by 4-3 votes, while in Judo, Salisu Aliyu from Kano defeated Maikadi Abubakar 4-3 votes.

In Tennis, Yusuf Daiti defeated Joel Adi 4-3 votes, while in Wrestling, Fawole Olawole emerged winner.

Others elected unopposed included Manzari Isa (Wushu Kunfu), Mohammed Maina (Badminton), Demola Ali (Chess), Umar Ladan (Cricket), Kabiru Umar (Deaf) and Abubakar Dan Galadima (Fives).

The rest are Ahmed Maizare (Gymnastics), Nkom Simon (Hockey), Suleiman Abubakar (Karate), Umar Salleh (Kick boxing), Adamu Magaji (Scrabble), Yusuf Umar (Squash), Abdullahi Baba (Taekwondo) and Dr Babangida Hussaini (Weightlifting).
