Second round of Tokyo Olympics golf event interrupted by warning about storms

The second round of the men’s Olympic golf tournament was abandoned shortly before the end on Friday due to another thunderstorm warning.

The players were taken off the course of the Kasumigaseki Country Club for the second time and 16 players now have to finish their second round early on Saturday.

American Xander Schauffele was in the lead on the par-71 course in the north of Tokyo on 11 under par.

Japan’s golf idol and Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama led those still to conclude their round on eight under par after 16 holes.

The round had already been interrupted for over two hours in the morning due to thunderstorms.

A storm had also caused a two-hour interruption the day before.
