Voters Registration: CLO urges stakeholders to intensify grassroots campaign

Must read

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) an NGO, has called on political, religious, traditional and Civil Society Organisation (CSO) leaders to intensify grassroots campaign on the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR).

Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, Chairman of CLO in Anambra, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Saturday on the ongoing Online  CVR exercise.

Ezekwueme noted that there was need for concerted and coordinated efforts to improve the level of awareness and participation in the ongoing CVR.

“Stakeholders in political and electoral awareness should do all to shore-up awareness on processes towards the ongoing online voters registration exercise in the country.

“This is in view of the 2023 General Election and the fast approaching Nov 6, 2021 Governorship Election in Anambra State, to ensure that all eligible voters are registered,” he said.

He stressed the need for the fast and transparent disbursement of voters cards to their owners without usual encumbrances.

The CLO boss cautioned that any lapse in the ongoing CVR especially on timing, fast and transparent disbursement of voters cards to their owners would lead to the disenfranchisement of  many prospective voters.

Ezekwueme also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to convene stakeholders meeting urgently to marshal out plans for the conduct of a credible governorship election in Anambra that would reflect the  wishes and aspirations of electorates.

“It is importance to note that Anambra Governorship Election will be a litmus test for 2023 General Election, hence free, fair, credible and generally acceptable election is not only inevitable but also indispensable,’’ he said. (NAN)
