Unknown gunmen have killed a military officer in Oto community, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
The gunmen who also carted away rifle belonging to the soldier, reportedly stormed the area in a speed boat through the Oton river and opened fire on the soldiers at their checkpoint near the river.
When contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the report in a telephone chat with DAILY POST
She said,”Yes! It’s true. His rifle was carted away.”
It was gathered that some indigenes and residents of the affected area are already fleeing their homes for fear that the military might deploy soldiers to the community for a reprisal attack.
