Two men, Matthew Olaposi and Babatunde Bayo, on Thursday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging an international passport and belonging to a cult.
Olaposi, 25, and Bayo, 24, are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, breach of peace and cultism.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Sept.10 at 10:30a.m. at Opa area, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendants forged an international passport bearing Alhamed Ola Ruth to facilitate internet scam.
He said that the defendants forged a document of the Federal Ministry of Justice to facilitate internet scam.
The prosecutor added that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to breach peace in a public place by smoking a substance suspected to be hemp.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendants were members of a secret society called Aye confraternity and used it to disturb public peace.
He said the offences contravened Sections 62(A), 63(B), 249(d) and 467(1), (2) of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
Defence Counsel, Mrs Innocental Akhigbe, urged the court to grant her clients bail in most liberal terms.
She promised that the defendants would not jump bail but would provide substantial sureties.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Ayeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
Ayeni said that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He added that the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to Osun Government.
Ayeni adjourned the case until Nov. 11 for mention.(NAN)
