Buhari mourns former VC of National Open University, Prof. Afolabi

President Muhammadu Buhari joins the academia, indigenes and government of Ekiti State in mourning the founding Vice Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Gabriel Afolabi Ojo, who passed away aged 91.

This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and made available to reporters on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Buhari commiserated with family, friends and associates of the scholar, who was a founding staff of the University of Ife (Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Knight of St Gregory the Great of the Roman Catholic Church.

The President believes the retired Professor of Geography lived an exemplary life, showing the world the reward of discipline, focus and dedication by climbing the academic ladder over many years and becoming a renowned author and administrator, which brought many national and international awards his way.

He prayed that the almighty God will receive the soul of the departed, and comfort his family.
