Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama on Sunday donated medical equipment for the handling of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases to Enugu State Government.
Onyeama also donated food items to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, charity homes, physically challenged persons, Nigerian Red Cross and Home for the Elderly in the state.
The minister, while distributing the palliatives, said that the medical equipment were meant to strengthen the resolve of the state government in shutting out COVID-19.
Onyeama, who is a member of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, urged Nigerians to keep to safety instructions and face the pandemic with prayers and faith in God.
He said that some of the food items and protective equipment were meant for the indigent members of the APC in the state and others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the equipment donated included infrared thermometers, surgical kits, medical goggles and facemasks and washable facemasks.
Others are COVID-19 test kits, facemasks, overall kits and sanitisers.
The food items included bags of rice, beans and garri, cartons of noodles, several tubers of yam, vegetable oil, provisions and diapers.
Responding on behalf of the state government, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi described the gift of the medical items as special.
Agujiobi said that the state government was proud of the minister and was solidly behind him in all his undertakings.
He said that the state had in Onyeama a worthy son and a representative that could be trusted.
The permanent secretary said that the state government would put the medical equipment to good use in the crusade against COVID-19. (NAN)
