COVID-19: Niger Govt Urges Retired Health Workers To Be At Alert

Niger State Government has engaged in proactive actions against the COVID-19 pandemic, urging the retired health workers in the state to remain at alert as there may be need for their services.

In a press statement issued by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman, Niger State Task Force on COVID-19, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, he explained that although the State was yet to record any single case,
Government was leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the people of the State were protected from the pandemic.

Ahmed enjoined all Local Government Chairmen to ensure all the preventive measures which include, social distance, regular hand washing or the use of alcoholic based sanitizer are strictly adhered to for the safety of all residents in the state.

It stated that, “Government is committed in ensuring that the people of the State are secured from the deadly disease.”

He stated that the State Task Force on COVID-19 had a duty to work closely with all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure that everything was done to reduce the chance of the virus taking root in the State.

The Chairman State Task Force on Covid-19 also directed Chairmen of Local Government Areas that share common border with neighboring States to ensure effective monitoring of people and vehicles coming into their respective areas, while entering point to the State remained close.

The statement said, “coronavirus is a global emergency for people’s lives and health, hence the need for citizens to strictly observe precautionary measures such as avoiding contact base greetings, social distancing, regular and thorough washing of hands with soap, suspension of all forms of gathering, among several others.”
