The governor-elect of Bayelsa State, Sen Douye Diri and the deputy governor-elect have received their Certificate of Return (CoR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Certificate was presented to them by the National Commissioner in charge of the region, Mary Abamuche Nbu.
She was assisted by other National Commissioners, Prince Solomon Soyebi, Abubakar Nahuche and the Secretary of the Commission.
The presentation of the certificate followed their declaration as governor and Deputy governor by the National Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu.
The PDP and it’s candidate were declared winner of the Bayelsa state gubernatorial election conducted on 16 November, 2019.
The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who made the announcement, said they have received the supreme Court judgement that disqualified the deputy governoship and vitiated the joint ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) which was earlier declared winner.
Yakubu said: “We reveiewed the result of the election in which 45 political parties contested. The total number of votes now stand at 146,999.
“Out of the figure, PDP candidate scored the highest number of votes with 143,172.
“The party also scored more than the 25 percent in all the local government. Consequently, Senator Douye Diri and Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo of the PDP are here by declared winners and returned elected as governor and deputy governor of Bayelsa State respectively.” LEADERSHIP
