1. Minimum Wage Negotiations: Labour Soft-Pedals As 15 States Miss Dec 31 Deadline [Punch]

No fewer than 15 states have yet to conclude negotiations on the new minimum wage two days after the deadline the organised labour gave governors to sign agreements with their workers.

Investigations on Thursday by The PUNCH showed that Ekiti, Cross River, Benue, Gombe, Osun, Sokoto, Oyo, Niger, Ogun, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, Kwara, Taraba and Anambra states had not agreed on consequential adjustments of salaries as a result of the new minimum wage.

2. EFCC Obtains 14-Day Detention Order For Shehu Sani [Punch]

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has reportedly obtained a court order to detain ex-lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, for 14 days to ensure a thorough investigation into his alleged involvement in name-dropping and extortion.

The development followed new allegations levelled against the ex-lawmaker by the complainant, Alhaji Sani Dauda.

3. Issues That Will Shape Politics In This Year [The Nation]

The year 2019 was full of political activities because it was an election year. The incoming 2020 also promises to be interesting, as some key issues are likely to shape politics during the year.

The year 2020 will be decisive for some states where governorship elections are expected to hold during the year. The states are Edo and Ondo States. Besides, the debate over who succeeds Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State in 2021 will equally commence in the year. President Muhammadu Buhari is also expected to appoint a new chairman for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

4. Justice Shall Prevail, Says Saraki As Groups Protest Demolition [The Nation]

Groups in Ilorin on Thursday protested the demolition of buildings on the land reclaimed from the Saraki family by the Kwara State government.

Dr. Bukola Saraki in a statement said “justice shall soon prevail in the illegal demolition” of his father’s house.

He said: “Following the development this (yesterday) morning in Ile Arugbo, I want to commend the women and men, old and young, who displayed their affection, love and staunch support for my late father and the family.

5. Enugu Airport: No Going Back On April Deadline –Minister [Sun]

Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has reassured aviation stakeholders that the rehabilitation of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, would be completed before April.

Sirika stated this, yesterday, while inspecting ongoing repairs of the airport by contractors. He said, apart from the runway and terminal building, the Instrument Landing Systems ( ILS), Air Field Lighting(AFL), taxi lights and others are part of the deliverables for the airport.

6. PDP BoT Chair On 2023: My Life In Danger For Not Endorsing Atiku [BluePrint]

Chairman Board of Trustees of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Walid Jibrin has raised the alarm over threats to his life following his comments that the party would not zone its presidential ticket to the North come 2023.

He raised the alarm in a petition to Director General Department of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Magaji Bichi and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
