Senate Chief Whip and former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, still remains President Muhammadu Buhari’s supporter despite the outcome of the suit instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his staunch supporter has revealed.
Kalu was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Lagos presided over by Justice Mohammed Idris, son of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Idris Kutigi, over alleged N7.2billion fraud.
Speaking on how Senator Kalu feels since his sentence, one of his stunch supporters, Chief Edwin Mbanusi, said despite the outcome of the case the senator holds President Buhari in high esteem.
According to him, Kalu has taken his fate without blaming anybody, while trying to explore options provided by the law, like seeking bail pending appeal and appealing the judgment.
He said just like Kalu supported President Buhari before and during the election, “he still supports him today. He will continue to support him.”
Mbanusi said anyone who thinks or suggests that Kalu would feel disaapointed with President Buhari is “being mischievious because he has no issue with the president.”
He said as a firm believer in the rule of law, Kalu will pursue his case in court to get redress.
“Kalu is not a man to blame others for whatever ordeal. He holds President Buhari in high esteem. Before the election, he canvassed votes and support for the president. He believed then that President Buhari deserved reelection. He worked tiredlessly for this. He ensured that Abia State gave the president 25 per cent. His support for the president is unshakeable even as he is incercerated,” Mbanusi said.
He thanked Kalu for what he has done for democracy, especially by supporting the current government All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre led by President Buhari.
