Getting married is a very special moment for women, however, many get so engrossed in wedding preparations that they forget to pay attention to vital elements that make a marriage work, you should consider if you and your spouse are prepared in certain areas.
Here are 5 points to consider:
You need to be sure you are really in love with him
Women are sometimes caught up in relationships where they don’t truly love the man. You may have given in to the relationship because he is nice, he treats you right and all, but spending forever with someone is such a long time that you can’t afford to use it as compensation.
Do not say yes because you suppose or because you are caught up in bridal excitement, or because it seems like the logical next step or because everyone you know is tying the knot. You need to be sure he is the one you want, and not just because you want the Mrs. Title.
You need to know his financial strength
Beyond what he pulls down in salary, you should know how much he has in savings, how much debt he is carrying, if he is repaying a loan e.t.c. You need to ask these questions before you are married so you have an understanding of what caused any problems and how to prevent them from happening again, you don’t want any surprises after marriage.
Your aspirations for 5 to 10 years
There is need to have goals even though you don’t need to have your whole life planned out, know what matters most to you, have a roadmap that can help you achieve your goals and dreams. Also know your partner’s own and be ready to get involved, but not while you forget your own dreams.
Know how to manage your finances
In as much as it is believed that a man should take up most financial responsibilities, a woman has to plan for her financial future as well. Money matters may not be fun, but being able to handle your own money means you are less likely to be financially handicapped by the loss of a job, divorce or the death of your spouse. You also may not need to be stuck in a violent or bad marriage because you can’t support yourself. Financial dependence is why most women remain in abusive relationships and marriage.
How to manage a home
Even if you are a career woman, you need to know how to put a home together. It isn’t about changing the door knob, or turning to an electrician overnight. You however need to know how to plan and organize even though you have people who can help with chores around the house. Knowing how to cook is also important, it doesn’t reduce your value as woman, but you should be able to make great meals for your family.
