Alleged Over-Billing: JEDC To Install Meters On Transformers

Must read

Jos Electricity Distribution Plc has concluded arrangements to install statistical meters on all their Distribution Transformers so as to end suspicion on their energy bills, the Managing Director, Alhaji Mohammad Gidado Modibbo, has disclosed.

Modibbo made the disclosure yesterday in Bauchi at the customers consultative forum organized by the management of the company to sensitize their customers on the operationalities of the company.

The Managing Director who was represented by the Head, Network planning and Expansion, Engr. Mansir Nakande, explained that with the installation of the statistical meters on transformers, customers who were hitherto disputing their energy bills would be convinced about the accuracy of the billed energy consumed.

Modibbo who expressed optimism about the possibility of metering all Jos Disco customers numbering over 400, 000 said there were adequate meters at the disposal of the company for onward free distribution to customers.

The Managing Director decried incessant destructions and vandalization of its facilities, calling on communities to take ownership of the company’s assets in their various localities.

“You are the direct users of these facilities. If you don’t protect it and they suffer vandalism or get destroyed, we all will be directly affected by it”, he said.

Modibbo also disclosed that the company has put in place machinery aimed at instituting corporate social responsibility projects that would be mutually beneficial to the various communities, adding that the company was currently considering the possibility of adopting community partnership approach.

Modibbo explained that when strategy becomes operationalized, communities would profit immensely in terms of employment as well as infrastructural development.

The Managing Director, however, lamented that, despite these laudable programmes put in place by the company, Jos Disco was still walloping in abysmal customers response.

He therefore urged customers to reciprocate these gestures by promptly paying for energy consumed by them stressing, that “customers’ refusal to pay for energy consumed by them will not only affect Jos Disco but the entire value chain of the Nigerian Electricity Supply industry”.
