A four-man armed robbery gang has fallen to the bullets of personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS at Ogbogoro community in Obio-Akpor Local Government area of Rivers State.
SARS Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Akin Fakorede confirmed this to DAILY POST on telephone.
CSP Fakorde said members of the armed gang were killed during a shoot-out with SARS officials after carrying out an operation in Ogbogoro.
He said the gang was involved in kidnapping and robbing of innocent citizens claiming to be SARS officials.
Akin Fakorede disclosed that the Police had been trailing the gang for months after investigations revealed they were the same group terrorizing residents of Ada-George, Iwofe, NTA road and its environs.
“We have had them on our watch list because people have complained to us about activities of SARS in that area but we knew those boys were not SARS officials.
“We have an itinerary of the personnel we dispatch to NTA and Ada-George areas and they are professionals.
“So, a member of the public who was coincidentally in a scene where those boys were operating was bold enough to use his phone to record them and sent to us.
“Since then, we have been trailing them until yesterday when we got a distress call that there were some armed robbers in Ogbogoro.
“Our men got there and engaged the boys in a gun fire until they were neutralized,” he said.
The SARS Commander called for more support from members of the public in the area of credible information.
