Senator Oko, who revealed this on her Facebook wall on Thursday, said the trip was timely due to the dare need to raise the nation’s educational sector to an enviable height and to reposition it for greater and better performance towards nation building.

She said apart from her colleagues from the NASS, selected officials of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, and Federal Ministry of Education were part of the team sponsored by the World Bank visited some of the outstanding technology giants, which include Google, Cousera, Udacity, Udemy, Job Kreb, and Gnowbe.

It will be recalled that Sen Oko has been passionate about human resources development and has embarked on massive construction of classroom blocks, laboratories, distribution of educational materials and scholarships running into millions of Naira in her senatorial district for the past two years.

She did same when she was in the House of Representatives and the impact has been tremendous in the performance and productivity of the teachers, pupils and students, thereby attracting those in private schools to enroll their children and wards in public schools.

She said: “I joined my colleagues in the National Assembly, select officials of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Ministry of Education for a World Bank sponsored visit to Silicon Valley, San Francisco in the US, to interface with technology outfits including Google, Cousera, Udacity, Udemy, Job Kreb, and Gnowbe; on innovations in Education Technology and its application in the basic education sector in Nigeria.

“We had robust interactions and engagements that will have far reaching impacts and enhance the quality of education in Nigeria, both in terms of infrastructure, teacher quality and teacher sufficiency.”

She said the visit has made them to understand the technology in modern day education and definitely would be deployed in the country’s education system and believes would make the expected impact when backed up with necessary legislation and political will of the government to transform the educational sector and human resources development in no distant time.

Meanwhile, she reiterated her commitment to ensure the people she represents in the Red Chamber enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“I am back from the week-long visit to continue with my national legislative mandate in the interest of my constituents, my home state (Cross River) and the nation at large.

“I covet your prayers dear constituents to continue to give responsive representation and leadership,” she added.
