I’m Bothered About Senate Confirmation – Magu

By MBACHU GODWIN NNANNA, Abuja

Several weeks after the upper legislative chamber rejected the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, (EFCC), the acting chairman said he was  not losing sleep over his rejection by the senate.

Speaking when he visited the corporate headquarters of LEADERSHIP, yesterday, Magu said his commitment to combating the menace of corruption remained unshaken.

It would be recalled that Magu ‘s confirmation  has been a source of controversy with the Senate turning down his nomination twice, citing damning report from the department of state services.

The presidency has forwarded Ibrahim Magu’s name to the senate for confirmation and the refusal to confirm him has divided the senate as well as soured the relationship between the executive and legislature.

But speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP, the anti graft Czar who described the controversy over his confirmation by the senate as corruption fighting back, noted that what was important was doing the job for the best interest of Nigerians.

“I am not bothered about confirmation or no confirmation. It is corruption fighting back. It is only God in his infinite mercy that is helping us.  When the time comes, I will leave”

Speaking further, Magu said he cannot be deterred in fighting corruption even as he urged the media, especially LEADERSHIP newspaper, to continue in its fight against corruption.

“I appeal to you to continue to stand by the truth and nothing but the truth, I appeal to you to continue to sensitize every Nigerian against corruption, I like corruption is celebrated we should not allow it continue”

Earlier, in his remark, chairman of LEADERSHIP GROUP, Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah commended the EFCC chairman for his effort in the fight against corruption, urging him not to be discouraged.

Mr Nda-Isaiah specifically hailed Magu for his forthright in uncovering the NIA Ikoyigate saga, saying that if not for his insistence, the matter would have gone unnoticed.
