More reactions from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains from across Nigeria have continued to trail the Supreme Court ruling that declared Ahmed Makarfi the authentic leader of the Party.
The immediate Past National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh; a two-time Minister of Information, Jerry Gana; and National Co-ordinator of PDP National Youth Frontier, Austin Okai Usman, have hailed the judgement of the Apex Court as a righteous and just necessity that would ensure Nigeria’s democracy continued to thrive since it will put the PDP in shape for the opposition role.
In separate chats with DAILY POST, the PDP Chieftains also reiterated the decision of the Party to toe the path of unity and peace as it focused on reclaiming the government at the centre by 2019.
However, they warned that moles will no longer be tolerated in the Party, even as they urged the Makarfi leadership not to allow money-bag politicians hijack the structures of the PDP for personal gains.
Olisa Metuh said: “We want to thank God for rescuing this Party from the people that hijacked this Party. And from the government of the day that was working with the enemies of our Party.
“Nigerians want PDP to be truly an opposition Party. There is no democracy without opposition. We are set to be a credible opposition to the government in Power. I want to assure Nigerians this Party will take over in 2019.
“We want Peace and unity. PDP is one big family. The umbrella is big enough to cover everyone. Everyone will come back, join the Party and we will work hard. Special recognition goes to our elected ones who have kept faith with the Party.
“Their commitment is exemplary and applauded.
“We must congratulate the staff of the PDP for their hard work and for their commitment to the Party.”
On his part, Jerry Gana said: “PDP has awoken. PDP is on the move. This is the time to take over.
“Makarfi’s leadership is one of righteousness and justice. What the Supreme Justices said is true. We will follow through with sincerity, the fear of God, and love for all our members.
“And all that refuse to obey the law will be….”
Okai, in his own reaction asked the political gladiators in the PDP to see the victory at the Supreme court as an opportunity to return the party to the people.
He said: “Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sherrif should sheath their swords and walk together as one family to return and re-organise the PDP as one family to wrest power once again to the benefit of Nigerians
“I advise the leaders of the party to guide against the activities of money bags who are always scheming to hijack the party as the platform remains the party of the grass root and ordinary Nigerians
“Makarfi’s victory is for all and sundry; because for democracy to thrive in Nigeria, the role of opposition cannot be over emphazied.”
