Trump’s Presidency In Focus: Day 165

…..CNN Mocks Trump Touting Numbers He Called ‘Phony’ And ‘Near Depression’

President Donald Trump spent his candidacy bashing employment numbers 19 times. Tuesday, morning, however, he’s decided those numbers are perfect representations of America’s greatness under his leadership.
“Dow hit a new intraday all-time high! I wonder whether or not the Fake News Media will so report?” Trump said in his morning Twitter storm.
The media isn’t discounting the numbers, merely his abrupt decision to trust them.
“It’s fascinating because candidate Trump took numbers just like this and didn’t believe them and said the United States was in a near depression,” recalled chief business correspondent Christine Romans. “President Trump looks at these numbers and celebrates them and even takes credit for them.”
Romans walked through the raw numbers explaining updated numbers show 600,000 new jobs have been created in the first five months of the year. It’s on par with what was created under President Barack Obama, but it has slowed a little. As Trump continues to promise deregulation, the markets also continue to go up.
“The president has made a big push about getting the automakers to make cars in the U.S., and we’re seeing kind of just as we’re seeing the president come into office, just coincidentally you’re coming to the very kind of peak of what we’ve seen,” she continued. “Auto sales seem to be peaking here and six months in a row now of auto sales falling which is something really closely watched here because car sales are a big important part of the U.S. manufacturing base and after gang buster few years, now you’re starting to see that slow.”
As the Washington Post captured following the campaign, the 19 times stretched from 2012 until one month after his election in 2016.
