Rivers Pensioners Vow To Boycott May Day, Golden Jubilee Celebration

Pensioners in Rivers State have vowed to boycott the celebration of the State’s Golden Jubilee celebration over several months of unpaid benefits.

Chairman of Pensioners in Rivers state, Festus Abibo said this in an interview with newsman in Port Harcourt.

Abibo decried the action of the state Governor, Nyesom Wike who he accused of being insensitive.

He wondered why the Governor had refused to pay pensioners despite the huge funds accruing to the state every month.

According to Abibo, “We cannot celebrate the forthcoming May Day with empty stomach.

“Pensioners will boycott the celebration. We have not been paid our pensions. Pensioners in Rivers State are owed several months of pension. Even a State like Yobe is not owing pension to her pensioners.

“Recently, President Buhari ordered the CBN to release Paris Club money. What did Rivers State use the money for? We will also boycott the forthcoming Golden Jubilee celebration in Rivers State.” Daily Post
