Proceedings Of The Nigerian Senate Of Wednesday 29th March, 2017

Welcome to a new Legislative day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Senate President Bukola Saraki took the official prayer and led the chamber into the day’s proceedings.

Senator Umaru Kurfi moved for the approval of the Votes and Proceedings of Tuesday, 28th March, 2017. Senator Ahmed Ogembe seconded.

*EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION*

Senate President Bukola Saraki read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari for the Confirmation of Professor Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan from Kogi and Gombe state respectively as Ministerial Nominees.

*PETITIONS*

1. Senator Mao Ohuabunwa raised a petition on wrongful dismissal of a lecturer in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu state and seizure of car.

2. Senator Ben Uwajumogu raised a Petition on the death of a person from his Constituency in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC.

*POINT OF ORDER*

1. Senator Jibrin Barau cited order 43 and stated that Daily Trust Newspapers has retracted their earlier publication about him.

2. Senator Ibn Bala Na’Allah reacted to a Publication in the Punch Newspapers where he read that the “Senate is irresponsible and childish for not confirming the Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission”.

This matter was referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

*CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS*

1. Report of Parliamentary Visit of the Nigerian Senate led by the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to Berlin, Germany from 8th – 10th March, 2017 by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe read the report on the Parliamentary visit to Germany and the recommendations taken.

2. Report of the Parliamentary visit of the Nigeria Senate led by the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to Rabat and Dakhla, Morocco from 16th – 18th March, 2017.

Senator Adamu read the. Parliamentary report on the Moroccan trip and the recommendations taken.
